Thinking Man

Solomon, probably the richest man that ever lived, said,  "He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver" (Eccl. 5:10). Many people have reached the height of wealth, the very thing most people strive for, and yet were left unsatisfied, frustrated, and in despair. No, money is not the answer.

Can we find happiness in success or fame? Marilyn Monroe, famous actress, committed suicide.  Ernest Hemingway, famous writer, took his life as well. The famed infidel Voltaire wrote, "I wish I had never been born." The British novelist Charles Lamb said, " I walk up and down thinking I am happy and knowing I am not". This world is full of people who committed suicide for one reason or another. Robin Williams (61), Kurt Cobain (27), Mindy McCready (37), Jonathan Brandis (27), Sawyer Sweeten (19), Jovan Belcher (25), Alexander McQueen (40), Junior Seau (43) Misty Upham (32), Ernest Hemingway (61), Simone Battle (25), Lee Thompson (29), Don Cornelius and Freddie E (22) and this list of those who took their lives could continue but we don't have the time or space to name them all. Why did these people in the height of success and fame in the eyes of the world, die from a discontentment with their lives? How often are we hearing about people even around us that are feeling such emptiness in their lives?

What about you? Do you ever feel like something is missing in your life? Do you ever wonder if there is something more to life than the way you are living? Can you ever be truly happy and fulfilled in life? What in this world does satisfy?

There are answers. But most people don't care enough to search for them. Others are looking in the wrong places. Still others, once they find the answers, aren't willing to change, and, therefore remain in a state of illusion. Are you willing to face the problem?

                     THE PROBLEM

We live in a world of cause and effect. There is no effect that has not been brought about by some cause. This whole universe has been  designed as one of law and order.  Physical laws govern planets, stars, and other masses to act the way they do. Two masses set in motion in space will tend to attract one another. In the world, natural laws govern life to act the way it does. When we plant corn, we can expect to grow corn. When we plant tomato seeds, we will get tomatoes. Likewise, there are spiritual laws which govern the way man is to live. When a person thinks evil thoughts, he will end up doing evil actions. It is a spiritual law.

The Bible states "Be not deceived. God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap" (Galatians 6:7). There is no doubt about it. We will reap what we sow. There are consequences to what we think, say, and do.

Through observation, research, and study, man has discovered many of the physical and natural laws which govern matter and life. However, the spiritual laws that that govern man have been given to him. God, the lawgiver of all laws, has communicated the spiritual laws that govern man in His Word, the Bible. Many have questioned this though time, but God has given much proof that the Bible is His Word. (We came prove this proof just let us know if you want that study). He tells us what is right and what is wrong.

Breaking God's law, doing wrong, and going our own way are all called sin in the Bible. Read I John 5:17; Isaiah 53:6; I John 3:4) ~Galatians 3:22...the whole world!

Many people try to deceive themselves into thinking that they are without sin or guilt, or they try to cover it up by using many different philosophies and means. But it won't work. Sin has it's consequences. Because we have broken the law ..read Romans 6:23; Ezekiel 18:4. We by ourselves can't do anything about it. But there is a solution, a means of help, given by God, our Creator.
